Participation at Climate Crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East Conference

Dr. Athos Agapiou was invited to participate in the 2024 Climate Crisis in the EasternMediterranean and the Middle East Conference, co-organized by The Cyprus Instituteand the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts. Building on the success ofprevious conferences, the event brought together key stakeholders to address thepressing climate issues in this vulnerable region. Dr. Agapiou’s presentation focusedon the role of Earth observation in tackling climate change and preserving culturalheritage. He showcased examples from both ongoing and past research activities,including those ofthe CONNECTINGproject, illustrating how advanced Earthobservation technologies can monitor environmental changes and safeguard culturalsites. The conference, held under the patronage of the President of Cyprus, H.E. Dr. Nicos Christodoulides, emphasized scientific, financial, and policy strategies forclimate mitigation and adaptation.
